Kebbi PDP Suffers Major Defection to APC

More than 1,500 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Zuru Emirate have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State.

The defectors were officially received on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi by the APC state chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, who attributed the mass movement to the impressive performance of the state government. He noted that ongoing projects—particularly the construction of the Koko–Dabai–Zuru road and other infrastructural developments—convinced many supporters to join the ruling party.

Kana-Zuru assured the new members that they would be fully integrated and accorded equal treatment within the APC.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Alhaji Lawali Riba, a former PDP House of Assembly candidate, said their decision was influenced by recent events in the state, including the coordinated rescue of abducted students of Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga.

Another defector, Arzika Riba, criticised some government aides for what he described as a slow pace of work, urging them to improve their performance.

Two female defectors from Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, Binta Bena and Hajiya Maryam, also noted that the PDP had lost significant influence in their communities.
