NNPP Rules Out Talks with Tinubu, Eyes 2027 Elections
Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, national chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has clarified that the party is fully focused on preparations for the 2027 general elections and is not engaged in any secret discussions with President Bola Tinubu or the Presidency.
“I can assure you that the national leader of the NNPP is not romancing or holding any conversations with the President or the Presidency. This is a genuine statement, not a political one,” he said.
Dr. Ahmed emphasized that the battle for Kano in 2027 will be decided by the people, not through alliances with other parties. He insisted that the NNPP will achieve success based on its own strength and strategy, rather than by joining the APC.
“I don’t believe that joining the APC is necessary for our success. In fact, it would guarantee our failure in Kano,” he told The Nation.
He further explained that the NNPP aims to grow its influence nationwide, positioning itself as a strong contender for the presidency in 2027. According to Dr. Ahmed, the party already has a solid structure across all states and local governments, making it one of the few opposition parties with genuine nationwide reach.
Regarding the party’s presidential ticket, Dr. Ahmed noted that the NNPP is open to all aspirants. While acknowledging the influence of Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, he stressed, “He is not the deciding factor. The deciding factor is the NWC of the party, and he respects that.”
Dr. Ahmed also addressed the crises within other opposition parties, saying external interference is not the cause. “Parties face challenges because of internal contradictions, not outside forces. If the PDP and Labour Party were united, no one could break them apart,” he explained.
Looking ahead, he predicted a turbulent future for the PDP and Labour Party while reaffirming that the NNPP prefers to operate quietly. “We remain silent for all the right reasons, unlike the PDP, which is noisy for all the wrong reasons. When we unveil our plans, critics will see that we warned them,” he added.
