My Mom Left For Work Around 5:30 And Came Home Late, While I Was Raising My Brother From Six–Actress Damipe Adekoya

Actress Damipe Adekoya has shared how her childhood independence, forced by her parents’ busy schedules, left her emotionally isolated and unable to ask for help, even in moments of deep pain.

She revealed that with a banker mother who left home very early and a father in seminary and later pastoring, she found herself taking care of her younger brother from primary school age, handling school runs and household responsibilities on her own.

This early responsibility, she said, made her so self-reliant that she now struggles to open up, even to her parents, and often prefers to cry alone in her room rather than burden anyone with her problems.

Damipe Adekoya said: “My mom will go to work maybe like 5:30, the way bank work was back then, and probably come home 11:00. I was left with my little brother and I was parenting my little brother from like age 6, 7. I’d be the one to take him to school, bring him back home. I was independent from a very early age. Even in university, there was a day I got my heart broken. I was in my room crying and my mom asked me what was wrong, I could not talk. I was always within the wall of my room by myself.
