Panic In Kogi Community As Suspected Bandits Attack Farmers, Destroy Farmlands

Suspected bandits on Friday morning attacked two farmers in a cashew plantation near Comprehensive College in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, leaving the victims with serious machete wounds.

The incident has created tension in the community as members of the Egbe Security Squad and local youths reportedly mobilised immediately after the attack to pursue the armed assailants who fled the area.

SaharaReporters gathered that the attackers stormed the farmland early in the morning while the farmers were working, assaulting them with machetes before destroying crops on nearby farms.

A local community platform, Egbe Mekun, while quoting sources, confirmed that the victims sustained severe injuries during the attack.

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, residents were seen lamenting the destruction of several cassava farms by the attackers.

One of the community members who spoke in the background of the video expressed anger and frustration over the recurring attacks on farmers.

“In a community that has a king, chiefs and youths, bandits have come to destroy people’s farms,” the man said.

“They butchered two people this morning. We don’t even know if they will survive. They destroyed all the cassava. How can we survive? Only God knows what we will take to survive this year,” he added.

Residents said the attack has heightened fear among farmers in the area who depend heavily on agriculture for their livelihood.

Meanwhile, the two injured farmers reportedly survived the assault and are currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed location.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.National News…
