Political affairs analyst Ibrahim Modibo has stirred debate over the internal crisis rocking the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), suggesting that the party’s direction appears heavily influenced by the political weight of Nyesom Wike.
Speaking during a recent interview on Arise News, Modibo argued that the ongoing turmoil within the opposition party reflects the level of control and leverage Wike currently enjoys within the PDP structure. According to him, the former Rivers State governor has positioned himself in a way that allows him to shape major decisions affecting the party.
“The People’s Democratic Party is Nyesom Wike’s company. It is his private enterprise. He can do whatever he wants with it, and he is finding the leeway to do so,” Modibo said.
His remarks come amid growing divisions within the PDP, including disagreements among party leaders, legal disputes, and the exit of some prominent members to other political platforms. Analysts believe the crisis has weakened the party’s ability to present a united front as Nigeria’s main opposition force.
Modibo noted that the perception of the PDP being dominated by a single influential figure could further complicate reconciliation efforts within the party.
